FAQs

Are the rates listed on the website fixed?

The rates listed for services are approximate and based on the basic service package; they are fixed for the current calendar year. When a service request is made, a no-obligation quote is provided following a discussion to jointly identify the requirements, in order to best assess the amount of work required as well as the necessary image usage licenses.

Are the images (and videos) royalty-free?

The license to use the content—that is, your right to use the content created for you—is generally included and specified in the services. For commercial or editorial projects of a certain scale, an additional licensing fee is charged. In both cases, once the invoice is paid, the images belong to you within the scope of the defined use. To reuse the images in other publication projects not covered by the original offer, you must contact the photographer again to establish a new license.

Is it necessary to credit the photographer when using visual works?

The images (or other media) are provided to you without a watermark (the photographer’s name on the image). The credit (© Julien James Auzan or Photo: Julien James Auzan) is not legally required under Swiss law, but should be included—if only for ethical reasons—in contexts where it is customary (newspaper articles, social media posts, printed materials, etc.). In other cases, the credit is always appreciated, both for copyright reasons and to promote the photographer’s independent work.

Are the images edited?

All images are delivered to you “processed,” meaning they have been edited using post-production software. For print publication projects, a selection of images is made so that they can undergo any necessary additional retouching and be provided to you in an appropriate final format. For advanced retouching (image modifications or transformations), this must be requested separately and will be billed as an additional charge.

Is AI being used?

As a content creator, I do not use generative AI to generate content. Only AI-based editing tools are sometimes used, but only for basic edits that do not alter the subject of the image—just as with the old, common local editing tools that did not use AI. Any significant transformation of the image, whether via generative AI or not, is clearly disclosed.

Is the quote binding regarding the final cost of the service?

As long as the service remains within the agreed-upon scope, yes. If that scope is exceeded, the photographer will contact you in advance to adjust the fee to reflect the new requirements. However, the photographer will cover the full cost of any additional work as long as it remains within the scope originally agreed upon.

What about “Julien James Auzan – Images and Words”?

Since November 2024, Images et Mots has been a nonprofit publishing house dedicated to collaborative publishing projects and continues to be led by photographer Julien James Auzan, who serves as its director. All editorial services (website, audiovisual projects, etc.) outside of this scope are now an integral part of photographer Julien James Auzan’s services.
